Mad Dog

Look up Italian movie “La Belva Col Mitra” and you’ll see a list of English titles under it. I saw it as Mad Dog, but it's also available under “The Mad Dog Killer” and “Beast with a Gun.” The only positive thing I have to say is I’ll never have to watch it again.

The story centers around Mad Dog, a vicious killer. He and his gang have escaped prison and want revenge on the people that put them there. Mad Dog strong-arms the girlfriend of one of the now-dead stool pigeons into helping him escape the country. When Juliana finally manages to get to the police for help they set a trap for the criminals. Now Juliana and the family of the cop leading the hunt are on the top of Mad Dog’s to-do list.

I’m just not a fan of gangster movies (unless they involve Kung Fu) so I didn’t expect to like this. It lived up to expectations. The acting is terrible which is not helped by being a dubbed Italian flick. The action is poorly done, the attempts at comic relief are lame, and the camera work with its bouncy steadycams are enough to make the viewer seasick.

I try to think of something positive to say about a movie for a balanced review, but I just can’t come up with anything about this one that I enjoyed or thought was well done. But that’s why I like to point out I’m not a fan of the genre anyway. Maybe I’m harder on it than I would be on a bad Kung Fu or horror flick.

MORALITY:

There is a good bit of violence with people getting shot and sliced. In one particularly disturbing scene Mad Dog threatens to cut off a woman’s breast. While he doesn't carry through fully, he does slice up her bare chest.

There are a few different nude scenes (male and female) most of which involve some sort of rape or molestation.

The strong language is pretty heavy throughout.

SPIRITUALITY:

We get a glimpse at the ugliness of this kind of brutality.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Unless you just really like bad movies about killer convicts you might want to avoid this goofy pile of junk.
