Voodoo Black Exorcist

I had a feeling Voodoo Black Exorcist was going to be a campy movie. My hope was that it would be campy enough to be fun. It invites ridicule that's for sure. This guy has got to be one of the worst monsters I've seen in... hmmmm, maybe ever.
An African couple (who don't look African, by the way) is punished for being caught in an adulterous relationship. She is beheaded and he is entombed alive. In typical mummy movie style his sarcophagus is disturbed many years later bringing him back to unlife.
He takes his vengeance out on a guy that looks like someone he knew and becomes obsessed with a woman who reminds him of his lost lover. As the police investigate the strange goings on they don't know whether to charge the archaeologist watching over the sarcophagus or ask for his help.
One problem here is that the acting sucks. This isn't helped by being a Spanish movie poorly dubbed in English. There's something lost in the translation I'm sure, but some decent voice over actors would be a good start to making this worth watching.
As the mummy remembers his past life we are treated to several flashback shots with bad music. This might be fine if not for the horrible red tint that makes them so hard on the eyes.
Maybe they were trying to give the mummy some human properties? I don't know, but he sure doesn't have a menacing presence. He often runs from crime scenes like a scared rabbit, and even loses his all-important ring during one of his escapes. Good thing he has dominated the mind of some poor slob (vampire fashion) so he has a lackey to go looking for his missing jewelry.
The ending is too abrupt. Some reaction shots would have gone a long way. Instead of leaving me shocked and awed I had more of an OK-so-what attitude.
By the way, someone should tell the people doing the credits not to abbreviate “assistant” using the first 3 letters. I laughed like I was in jr. high school again.
MORALITY:
After the first decapitation I expected this to be a gory movie. It's really not, but they pass this head around in an obscene fashion and flash back to it several times. It's not terribly realistic but still may be enough to bother viewers sensitive to gore. There are a few other moments of violence and numerous shots of the desiccated mummy which looks too silly to be gruesome.
There are several topless ladies dancing around in a voodoo ritual at the beginning as well as one or two other shots of nudity later on. The sexuality is mild, though. Even the adulterous couple doesn't get involved in much. We know they are being naughty more from the reactions of others than because of anything they do on screen.
There is some strong language but not a lot of it.
SPIRITUALITY:
Voodoo plays a part in what happens but it is not terribly convincing. The rituals are more about looking tribal than creating an impression of reality.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I suppose this one could be good for humorous ridicule. It can be unintentionally funny, but even so failed to entertain me. I was glad for it to end.
