Bloody Pit of Horror is said to be based off the works of Marquis de Sade. Maybe it is, but if you're looking to me to tell you how faithful it is don't hold your breath. I've never read de Sade and don't plan to anytime soon.
A self-proclaimed executioner with a supervillan name, the Crimson Executioner, has himself been executed in an iron maiden device of his own creation. He's been left sealed in his own castle for all time, that is until a modeling group shows up to do a photoshoot there. When one of them opens the Executioner's tomb crazy things start happening. An accident leaves one of the guys dead. But is it really an accident at all? Murders abound as the living try to figure out what's going on and how to get help.
Bloody Pit of Horror is supposedly from the 60's though it has a 70's feel to it. It has an exploitation flick quality about it the likes of which Rocger Corman would certainly have approved. It's campy, over-the-top, and ridiculous. I'd say it's little more than an excuse to put some scantily-clad girls and violence on screen.
This is an Italian flick so be prepared for some disconnect between the mouths and the dialogue. The acting doesn't help matters. I suppose it's not all terrible, but much of it's weak. Like I said, it's a campy movie.
You might could call this one so bad it's amusing. As long as you go in with low expectations about every aspect of it you won't be disappointed.
MORALITY:
You'll see more blood than the typical 60's movie. Themes of bondage, torture, and murder abound.
Sexuality is perhaps mild compared to what it would be if it had been made later. Even so, count on some sexual situations and girls not wearing much.
There is little to no strong language.
SPIRITUALITY:
The Executioner is out for blood though how he thinks this is any sort of justice is uncertain. It's clear that he's a psychopath. And if you happen to find the point I was going to make, please let me know. Until then I'll move on to more interesting movies.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I'm all for the occasional so-bad-it's-amusing movie. Bloody Pit of Horror didn't do it for me. I seem to be hard to appease when it comes to Italian horror. Stay away.
