A Face in the Fog

A Face in the Fog belongs to a mysterious killer known as the Fiend. He is after people working for a particular theater production. Jean is a reporter who claims to have seen his face in a bid to weed him out. The only way to protect his identity is for her to be dead.

The Fiend kills by methods the police can't figure out, nor are they aware of his motives. Without knowing why he's killing the people he is it's harder to predict his next move. As the investigation continues the bodies pile up with one man then another looking like he would be the killer. Can Jean live long enough to put a stop to the madness?

If there's one thing that severely hurt my enjoyment of this movie it's audio quality (which I'll talk about in more detail in the buying guide). Some important lines clipped most notably when Jean is making her accusation of who she thinks is the real killer.

OK I guess that's not the only thing that bugs me about this movie. At one point Jean's calls for help are so pitiful they almost make me laugh. What's more, some of the characters are annoying, and not all of the actors are particularly good.

The mystery is moderately engaging, though. I was entertained to the end. It's not as predictable as I might have expected, and some of the plot points are clever. It may not be an Agatha Christie level story, but it's pretty decent for an old mystery flick.

MORALITY:

Typical of old black-and-white flicks this one is quite tame. We're dealing with murder so of course there is some suggestion of violence, but we don't see anything graphic.

There is no sexuality, nudity, or strong language.

SPIRITUALITY:

The name of the play is “Satan's Bride” so there are some nods to the spiritual, but it doesn't get into any sort of depth.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Face in the Fog is not one to add to your priority list, but it's not bad if you're looking for old mystery flicks.
