If you went away for 10 years do you think your family would recognize you when you got back? Evidently whoever wrote House of Danger doesn't think so. When Dom shows up impersonating Ralph nobody knows the difference. And it's a good thing, too, because there's a killer on the loose. Ralph's father died mysteriously, and a boating accident has left Ralph unable to return home immediately. So he sends in Dom to get a head start on figuring out what all's going on with the end goal of catching a villain.

Only a wily old lawyer figures out the ruse. Once he knows the reasoning behind it he works with pseudo-Ralph to entrap the killer. They better hurry though, because Sylvia thinks she's kissing on her future husband which could lead to some difficult situations when her real boyfriend gets back.

It's hard to believe that a guy's entire family and girlfriend can be taken so easily, but beyond that horse-pill of a plot point it's not a bad story. It's a bit simple for a murder mystery, perhaps, but the focus is more on getting the proof than uncovering the killer. So it's not really trying to be a whodunit; it's more suspense drama.

The acting is fair. It's not up to par with some of the greats of classic movies, but it's better than the typical poverty row movies of the 30's. The story and acting come together well enough to create a pleasant viewing experience if you can deal with the dated audio and video.

MORALITY:

Typical of old black and white movies there is no sex, nudity, or strong language. The violence is negligible.

SPIRITUALITY:

While we could spend time discussing the motivations of the characters, there isn't anything substantially spiritual here.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

While not something you should rush right out and hunt down, if you like suspense flicks from the 30's I think you'll like this one. It's entertaining even if not always convincing.
