Releases Reviewed:
Blood Mania barely has a presence in the DVD market, but you can find it if you want it bad enough.
There is one stand-alone DVD option available. You can find a 2 pack with some extras and at least a couple of multi-movie packs. There is no HD option currently.
I got mine in the Drive In Movie Classics 50 pack.
Video:
1.78 NA widescreen: It' has a surprisingly clean image compared to the rest of this collection, but that's not saying much. It's still is not very high quality. The non-anamorphic widescreen means that if you're watching this on a widescreen TV each side of the image is padded with black borders. It's like watching through slats in a fence.
Audio:
2.0 mono: The audio has some light white noise. Even without that it is not well mixed: scenes of kissing sound more like sticks breaking.
Packaging:
The packaging from this company changes from time to time, but mine has each disc in a paper sleeve. All of those fit into a large plastic case. You can read more details of the set as a whole in the Drive In Movie Classics buying guide.
Just in case the movie itself isn't painful enough on its own a Mill Creek logo pops up from time to time.
Extras:
There are no extras of any kind.
Other Editions:
The DVD mentions a 1.33 ratio (which would make it pan-&-scan). It gives no other details, and none of the comments mention the presentation quality.
The 2 pack with Land of the Minotaur goes by the title “Maria's B Movie Mayhem.” Even though this was out of stock when I last looked I thought it worth a mention because it's the only release I saw mentioning any extras. The video is listed as 1.78 widescreen (though I wonder it this isn't non-anamorphic like my current copy). Extras include a commentary, an interview, and a trailer.
The Drive In Cult Classics is an 8 pack. It includes a few extras for the set (exact details are sketchy) as well as trailers for each film. The ratio is listed as 1.33 which would make this pan-&-scan. The presentation quality is said to be pretty good.
Final Thoughts:
The stand-alone DVD doesn't give enough details to make it worth bothering to get. I don't really recommend the Drive In Movie Classics 50 pack (mainly because of the annoying logo) unless you just have no other acceptable option. The 2 pack sounds like your best option if you can actually find one, but the 8 pack seems like a fair option as well if the price is right.
